Hi everyone, I hope that you were able to enjoy a Happy and safe Thanksgiving Holiday. Although I know that this year is much different than other years as far as who you could safely meet with, the spirit will always be the same. I am sure we have all found many new things to be grateful for, and I hope Thursday was just one of many days we show gratitude for what we have. It's crazy to believe that we are entering the last month of 2020, for as wild of a ride as this year has been, it almost seems to have flown by so incredibly quickly - especially this last month! The end of the year also symbolizes audition time at our Company, and this year is no different! Most of our teams for the New Year are footwork / solo work focused. It is also important to note that I cannot and will not guarantee In Person performance opportunities. If you want to join our Company, understand that this may mean that everything we do may be virtual or video based, as my decisions will always be rooted in what's best for public health first. Read on to see more information about our AUDITIONS inDecember, make sure you register - first come, first serve as we cap the attendance at our studio! We are currently finalizing dates for our Intensives that will start back up in January / February so make sure to keep an eye out on our website and social media for that! Keep slaying, Kat Arias Owner, Director Ferocity Dance Company P.S: Make sure to support all of your Small Business friends throughout the Holiday Season, it's been a hell of a year and we're all trying to make it as best as we can! Support doesn't have to be financial, you can share and/or leave a review - every little bit helps! |
| Hi everyone, I am so looking forward to seeing some of you back in the studio again as we prepare to bring back In Person Group Classes and have brought back a program in a new way. Remember that all of our Studio Happenings are available for virtual participation as well as In Person attendance and we look forward to seeing you in whichever way makes you most comfortable! We were completely closed to the public from March 12th to June 30th, on July 1st we opened to the public for private lessons only, and on July 15th we opened for our rehearsals. On August 1st we allowed small rentals to return to the studio, and we stalled this current part of the reopening until October because I didn't want to start group classes or workshops coming off of a Holiday weekend. I believe that our strict COVID measures have made the experience of coming back a safe one for us, and we have not had any issues so far! Thank you to everyone for their understanding. All of our In Person classes and workshops will have capped attendance limits and no rotations will be allowed for partnerwork. For partnerwork workshops you must register with your partner, if you don't have a partner, you can contact us and we can see if anyone else needs a partner and doesn't have one. Our full list of COVID requirements are listed on our website on our COVID-19 page and all the pages where our workshops and classes are listed. Please know that we have everyone's safety at the forefront of our planning process. We are also excited to announce that our Special Workshops / Boot Camps and Intensives all have ASL Interpreters available onsite now! Thank you for your patience as we continue our journey in becoming as inclusive as possible. Keep slaying, Kat Arias Owner, Director Ferocity Dance Company |
Hi everyone, I wanted to send an update about a couple of things and I'll begin by detailing where we are in our re-opening plan as we are approaching the fifth stage which is the re-introduction of Ferocity Group Classes & Workshops to the studio. As you know this was previously planned to happen in September, but I wanted to wait another month to ease out of Summer instead of jumping into something. Please know that before we talk about opening more to the public, there will be a virtual option for everything, so if you want to dance with us but aren't comfortable coming in, you can still join in on the fun! Our full list of COVID requirements are listed on our website on our COVID-19 page and all the pages where our workshops and classes are listed. As promised, all of our In Studio programs will be live streamed for those that want to attend from the safety of their homes or if you end up being quarantined from the studio and can't attend in person. We are getting everything set up now so we are good to go come October! Please know that we have everyone's safety at the forefront of our planning process. I'm sure by now most of you have heard, but I wanted to give a little detail about what happened to me a little over a week ago. I started having some pretty severe pains a little after midnight on Thursday, August 27th, they were so severe that even though I'm not the type to go to the hospital, I drove myself over to the ER within 40 minutes because I felt myself getting increasingly weaker. While I won't go into the specifics of what was wrong, four hours of pain later the Doctors realized that what was wrong with me required an Emergency Surgery and they rolled me into the OR within an hour. 12 hours after I left my house to go to the ER, I was home and started my recuperating journey. Recovery time is 2-4 weeks, and I'm really happy to say that I feel I'm closer to the two week part rather than the four! It was an incredibly scary moment in my life, and every possible thought went through my mind along with endless tears. But I wanted to share because I know there's a lot of people like me, we "tough it out" or ignore little pains here and there, but then something like this can happen! I am definitely glad that this time I listened to my body, because six weeks before this happened I had actually had a pain very similar to it, but it went away so I never thought to have it checked. Listen to your body, its only job is to protect us and keep us safe. Thank you all for so many kind words and thoughts, you keeping me in your daily thoughts has been amazing and I can't wait to come back soon! Keep slaying, Kat Arias Owner, Director Ferocity Dance Company P.S: I am thinking to bring back the Training Team in October as well, if you'd be interesting in being a part of that please let us know so I can make a decision. It's partner work focused and like all other programs, partnerships would need to be set and no rotations would be allowed. |
Upcoming In Person Workshops & Weekly Group Classes
I wanted to send an update about where we are in our re-opening plan as it's been six weeks since we re-opened on a limited basis and to let you know how things are going on our end! It has been really wonderful seeing my teams again, I truly missed them. I decided to push back opening for In Person group classes which was originally scheduled for August due to various COVID spiking trends around the US which made me a little nervous to bring the general public back at this time. So we are currently only open to the public if it's private lessons, and for Company members that are in rehearsals. This allows me to keep a better eye on the situation and to continue being slow and cautious as we move forward. This also has been good for those back at the studio (about half of my current students are attending in person, and the other half choosing to do our virtual option,) as it allows them time to get used to this new normal of ours. Dancing with masks can be challenging, but having the best kind of mask can be a great help! Whether you're coming to us or not, I wanted to pass along this link: Reebok Athletic Face Masks - I have started using these masks when I'm at the studio and it's a huge difference. I believe Adidas and UnderArmour also make these - I hope that helps! Also, wanted to clarify for transparency's sake - my students are required to wear masks from the second they enter the building until they leave, my management staff does not have to wear them when we are working on something and we are the only ones in the studio (four of us total,) but they do have to wear them when they're in rehearsal and/or not teaching. I'm sure you've seen pictures of me without my mask on, and they're usually taken at the end of my practices - when I'm not teaching groups I put the mask on. I assure you we are doing everything we can to navigate this pandemic in a way that's most safe for you and us, while allowing us to make it through to dance another day - thank you for your patience and understanding through these times. You can request to have this e-mailed to you if you want to go ahead and have it done early, or we send them out as appointments are made. QUESTIONNAIRE BEFORE EVERY VISIT An online questionnaire asking about symptoms, recent interactions and travel must be filled out before every visit to the studio. You can save the link to this and fill it on the day that you are coming to see us, or you'll be able to access via our website after tonight. Anyone experiencing symptoms will not be allowed to enter. ONLINE REGISTRATIONS ONLY In order to avoid exchanging of surfaces from one party to another, all payments and registrations be handled before your visit. We were mostly Green before but this will be more efficient for us all, and safer for you. MASKS REQUIRED All entering the building must have masks on, and they must remain on once inside the studio. Staff that are conducting classes can lower their masks while teaching. If you have a medical condition that prohibits you from wearing a mask, we will request to see a Doctor's Note stating such. HAND WASHING & SANITIZING REQUIRED We will have various touch free hand sanitizer stations set up throughout the studio including one outside in the hallway by our door. Make sure to practice proper hygiene, all hands must be sanitized upon entering studio and again before leaving. Hand washing for periods of 20-30 seconds required after using the restroom. TEMPERATURE CHECKS We will check everyone's temperature with infrared no touch thermometers as they enter the studio, if you have a temperature higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit, you will not be permitted to enter. NO SOCIALIZING You may enter five minutes before your scheduled appointment time, and find a prefixed spot to dance in (take your water bottles) and you must exit the studio and building immediately at the conclusion of your class. No socializing in the hallways either. The spots we have prefixed to the ground are NO FOOD You may bring your water bottles but no eating will be permitted in the studio. NO SHARED EQUIPMENT There will be no using of any rollers or mats, these items have been removed. NO STORING ITEMS Please come with only what you need for class, at the end of each day if items are left behind we will dispose of them. Half of the storage cubbies we currently have available will be blocked off to limit proximity to someone else's belongings. Please Note: Our expectations and rules for being in the studio will be posted in the studio and can change at any moment in time. *Studio Rentals Are Never Guaranteed As we are under tight restrictions on how many people can be at the studio, our needs as a studio must be met before we can share the space. We will let you know when you ask for a specific day/time if we can accommodate you. What Will We Do? CLEAN HEAVY TRAFFIC AREAS EVERY HOUR (TWO HOURS IF A LONGER SESSION IS OCCURRING) After classes, lessons or rehearsals we will clean all door knobs, cubbies, and surfaces PREFIXED DANCE SPOTS We have put in spacing where most students will have six feet of space between them and the next person in all directions. A few spots have three feet in one direction, but six in all others, these are meant for usage later when we can have more people. SOCIAL DISTANCING In order to be as safe as possible for my students, I myself am very limited in my interactions with the public and public spaces. SMILING FACES We have spent most of quarantine working in the studio and have invested in getting our studio as ready as possible by removing things we don't need, and stocking up with purifiers, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, touchless pumps and anything else we could think of to make this experience as safe as possible for you. We promise to smile and try to make you enjoy the time we have together albeit a different experience than before. VIRTUAL OPTIONS For those not ready to return physically, we will offer virtual options for all of the programs in the studio. You're our family, and we want it to be as comfortable as possible for you and that means catering to as many comfort levels as we are able. I would like to take a moment to communicate our stance regarding Black Lives Matter.
While my studio and Ferocity community may not be a large one, I want you to know that racism has never and will never be allowed in our doors, or around us. This behavior is deplorable and we must all do our part to take a stand against this way of thinking and follow through with actions. The lack of doing so will lead us towards many more future injustices and deaths.
The injustices endured by the Black community are unimaginable - for far too long their cries and pains have gone disregarded and left unattended to. These injustices are all of our problem, these are crimes against our friends, our family and our people.
One thing is to say you're an ally and it's another to be one - we need to BE allies. It's not enough to "not be racist," we must be anti-racist. I want you to know that I stand by my values and I see what's happening and it's not right, I will do my part in educating myself on how to be a better ally.
While we stand here at this juncture of change, I want you to know that while we can have differences of opinions when it comes to many things, we can't when it comes to racism. Not in my studio, not in my Company, and hopefully soon, not in my country. We need to start with ourselves and push for change. People shouldn't have to fight for the basic human right of being seen, and treated equally as all other human beings on Earth.
Ferocity stands with the Black Lives Matter movement, and if that is a problem, this is not the correct studio for you, and I am not the right teacher for you.

Hi everyone,
Even though we are all living this COVID-19 reality, for this post I would like to focus on our anniversary because Ferocity will have officially finished its eighth year in less than twenty minutes! Our 8-Year Anniversary would have happened on May 8th, but I created the company on May 1st, 2012 because I'm one of those people that needed an easy date (don't judge me, haha!)
I would like to take a moment to attempt to describe what Ferocity means to me: I felt like I didn't really begin to live until I found dance. But even so, I learned about true love not through a relationship with a person, but with my journey with Ferocity. Once I created Ferocity, I started the fight of a lifetime. I fought for a place in this world that I felt wasn't made for someone like me. I always said that if it was only me, then it would be only me - but I felt the need to find this home for myself. I have fought for this Company more than I have anything else in this life - it's been countless ups and just as many downs. There's lots of happy moments captured on camera, and lots of tears and sadness saved for in private. All of what my parents taught me in life, and things I learned in school and in my first business ultimately led me to here - to my place and this reality that I chose for myself.
Ferocity for me, is not just home, it is an experience. A place my heart knows where it can be free. It is the safe place where my mind knows it can explore and create. It is the safe embrace that I need when my fears and insecurities flare up. Ferocity has become synonymous with me, and the person I am directly molds the Company - hopefully, for the better. I have been going through memory lane and I will continue to do so and in doing this I am so grateful for the many people who have entrusted me in one way or another with their dance journey. Whether we only existed in the same space for an hour, or for years, I am forever grateful for you all and know that I don't take your trust in me lightly. I have met some of the most amazing people along the way and I know I wouldn't have met you were it not for this experience.
While we are living in uncertain times, one thing is for sure - I didn't fight every step of the way to get here and stop fighting now.
Happy 8th Year Anniversary Ferocity,
my everything!
